Brika, Perth

Brika is one of the very few authentic Meze Bars in Perth. Meze is a selection of small dishes served to accompany alcoholic drinks as a course, or as appetisers before a main dish and Brika's selection includes a range of rustic Greek dishes and drinks. The restaurant has a beautiful heated outdoor alfresco area and a cosy ambient atmosphere inside and another nice thing is they ask you where you would like to be seated when you make a booking.

Kolokithakia (Zucchini Fritters) $8

The Kolokithakia is very similar to potato gems, only with zucchini and it has a delicious cheesy centre. They were deep fried perfectly, the batter was super crispy but not too thick and the soft zucchini and cheesy filling just makes you crave for more! It's great to have as an entree and share with friends but we wish there were one or two more pieces, so we give it a rating of 7/10

Papoutsaki (Eggplant, Beef, Lamb and Bechamel) $20

Anyone who loves lasagna would love this dish! The Bechamel sauce and the minced meat inside reminded us so much of lasagna, minus the layers of pasta and the calories. The combination of the soft eggplant with the minced meat and Bechamel sauce was amazing, it was a very warm and hearty dish which is perfect to have in cold weather but not over filling. We highly recommend this dish if you haven't tried Greek food before as it won't be too far out of your comfort zone and we give it a rating of 9/10

Swordfish (Skewers, Chargrilled Peppers and Onion) $22

We don't think you can possibly go wrong with kebab skewers and hummus, and we were right! The chef clearly did a great job on the grill as the texture of this fish was just right, it was tender and firm but not dry. Swordfish is quite lean so it's great if you want a lighter meal and pairs beautifully with the creamy hummus. Our only critique is that we wish there was one or two more skewers for the price, but it was still a lovely dish and deserves a rating of 8/10

Loukoumades (Greek Doughnuts, Nutella and Walnuts) $9

If we could use emojis on here, our review of this dish would just contain a series of the love heart eyes emoji! We were pleasantly surprised with the texture of the doughnuts, it was different to any other doughnut we've tried. It had a nice crispy skin but when you take a bite into it, the inside had an amazing soft doughy texture that just melts into your mouth. The warm nutella drizzled over the top just took this dessert to another level and let's face it, anything with nutella tastes amazing! We give this dish a rating of 9.5/10

Overall Review

We've never really tried authentic Greek food before and Brika did an awesome job of showcasing the cuisine. We were very impressed with the quality of food and the customer service, the waitress was very knowledgable and gave great recommendations. However we think that the price is a little steep for the serving sizes, but having small serving sizes to share is the main concept of Meze. It is definitely worth it treating yourself to some good quality Greek food once in a while. We give Brika an overall rating of 8.5/10.
