Tropico is a coastal café that serves Modern Australian dishes and over the past few months they've blown up on social media, with so many people sharing amazing pictures of their food. The café is designed to have a relaxed California vibe, as you walk in you'll almost feel like you're in The OC. Plus, who doesn't love a morning spent by the beach?
This post is done in collaboration with Louise from The Faceless Style, she's done a Fashion/Brunch editorial on her blog. To see photos of me awkwardly trying to pose, click here :P. She is my childhood best friend, we go all the way back to pre-primary in 1998! She is such a sweet genuine person and I always have a great time catching up with her. She has amazing taste in fashion, an excellent writer, loves photography and is addicted to food, we couldn't think of a better way to combine that all in one.
Now onto the review...
Salted Caramel Thick-shake ($8.50)
As you'll see here and in the following photos, we were on a bit of a sugar kick that day! The salted caramel thick-shake tasted as good as it looks, however we recommend ordering this with savoury dishes instead. If you enjoy salted caramel, this is a good one to try.
Banana Bread ($18)
Banana bread has always been such a boring option that we never really go out of our way to have, but the way it was described on the menu made it so enticing. The vanilla meringue gave the banana bread so much more dimension in terms of flavour, while the fruit on top was a nice way to add freshness to the dish. The bits of crunchy honeycomb had just the right amount of texture. We liked how the meringue was placed slightly on the side, so we can add just enough of it to the banana bread to suit our taste. Banana bread is no longer boring! We rate this dish 8/10.
Tropico Breakfast Trifle ($16)
This is a lighter and slightly healthier option with a hint of sweetness. The layers of honey yoghurt, vanilla sponge, berry compote worked beautifully together. The texture of the sponge cake went perfectly with the creamy yoghurt and the berries gave the dish some tangy freshness. This dish was delicious but not quite as creative as the banana bread, so we gave it a rating of 7.5/10.
Overall Review
There was nothing negative we could really say about the food, the menu is pretty much perfection! The service was quick and friendly, the pricing was very reasonable considering it's coastal location. All in all, its one of the best places to relax and catch up with friends and we'll definitely be back to try out the savoury dishes here! Overall we give Tropico a rating of 8.5/10.
