Lucky Chan's Laundry & Noodlebar is the first crowd funded restaurant to open in Perth. It is opened by the same people that brought us The Classroom and you can really tell through its quirky personality. The noodlebar is stretched over three levels where the first level is a classic bar/dining area, the second floor appears to be reserved for functions and the third floor is a cosy roof top bar. The menu is a modern twist on asian cuisine, so don't expect anything authentic and it showcases many different types of asian food rather than focusing on one.
Unlike other places we were given a tour by the lovely waiter of the entire restaurant so we could decide on where to sit. We chose the scenic rooftop bar and there we browsed the comprehensive menu. The menu offers a range of ramen dishes and also shared tapas style dishes which sounded similar to Darlings Supper Club. In our opinion the ramen dishes are great value for money, whereas the share plates seem a little pricey for what they are.
Lychee Mohjito Bubble Tea $18
We were very excited to try this cocktail as we are bubble tea lovers and the thought of it combined with a bit of alcohol sounded amazing! However it did leave us a little disappointed, as they skipped out on the tea and sago side of it. It basically tasted like a normal mohjito with a extra hint of lychee which isn't too bad.
Shoyu Ramen ($14.90)
This ramen consists of of Hanoi chicken, 62 degree egg, fishcake and nori, which is a classic Japanese combination to have in ramen. Can we just mention that this large bowl of noodles were just $14.90?! Which is almost a miracle in Perth. The flavours all worked harmoniously with each other, the chicken was succulent and tender, while the egg and fishcake tied the dish together. We liked that the soup wasn't too salty, the dish overall wasn't too heavy and was easily devoured in one sitting. When you order any ramen dish, you can ask for a spice level ranging from 0 (no spice) to 20 (intense spice), so it can be catered to anybody's liking. There's really nothing bad to say about this dish so we rate it 9.5/10!
Danny Ramen ($15.90)
This ramen consists of szechuan spicy pork mince, miso buttered corn, spring onion and bean sprouts. Again this ramen was such good value for money. Rather than pieces meat, the spicy mince spread flavour throughout the entire soup. The corn and bean sprouts added freshness and texture that worked wonderfully with the noodles. We recommend this dish for the people who love their spice. Again we had nothing bad to say about this dish and we think it deserves a rating of 9.5/10.
If you've grown up in an asian household you will be familiar with this chilli sauce and you know its the bomb! We were pleasantly surprised when the waiter served us with the chilli sauce, just in case our ramen wasn't spicy enough for our liking.
I might need to check this place out!
