We stumbled across Bar Lafayette while walking through St Georges Terrace and hearing the beautiful live music within the bar. As you can see the ambient atmosphere immediately drew us in. Bar Lafayette is a classic, old world cocktail bar which serves a diverse range of drinks and bites.
To set the scene we were seated in the outdoor space in front of the lovely greenery in Brookfield Place, while the relaxed guitar vibes filled our ears, perfect for a weekend afternoon.
Pineapple and Ginger Virgin Julep $8.50 & '5 & Dime' Semillon Sauvignon Blanc $11
It was nice that there were a wide range of alcohol-free options on the drinks menu for the designated drivers out there. The pineapple and ginger virgin julep was the perfect mix of sweet and sour and you can barely tell that it's non-alcoholic. The white wine was recommend by the lovely waiter, it was a good combination of dry and sweet.
Cheese Board $28
How could we pass up a cheese board?! If you've been reading our blog you'll know that we raved about the cheese board at The Flour Factory, but this one definitely beats it by far! You get four different cheeses; Brie, Cheddar, Gorgonzola and Goat's Cheese, so you get a good selection of soft, semi-soft and hard cheeses. You also get raisin toast, lavosh and wafer crackers which are exquisite textures to go with the cheese. Everything about this dish was bursting with flavour! There was the option to add sweetness to our cheese with a variety of quince, honeycomb, chutney, and also some pesto on the side to keep it savoury. It's very rare that we give 10/10 ratings and on this occasion, it was a well deserved 10/10!
Lemon, Chilli and Ginger Braised Duck $20
The succulent duck was held in softly steamed bao which was a match made in heaven. We could tell that the duck was very carefully marinated as it was full of flavour and had texture similar to pulled pork. The crispy wonton skin and ginger gave it just the right amount of garnish and texture, which prevented the meat from over powering. We rate this dish 8/10.
#flatlay
We finally got a good flatlay picture! Usually we're too embarrassed to stand up on a chair to get the wonderful flatlay shots, but this time we got a good one due to pure luck!
Overall Review
This is the perfect piece of luxury before your night out on the town. The live music created a chilled-out atmosphere and the quality of food definitely rose to the occasion and we were very impressed! The prices for the food and drink are on the pricey side, however our experience was worth every penny. We would recommend this to anyone who likes to have a good chat over a glass of wine and some bites, we rate Bar Lafayette 9/10.
